Another update: All power/electricity (including cell service) has been cut off for the souther Baja, so nobody is able to get in contact with anyone down there. We were fortunate enough to get to talk to my dad for a short time yesterday morning, but we haven’t been able to get ahold of anyone else (including my sister’s boyfriend who swore he’d contact us if he could), and there are many other people who haven’t been able to get in contact with any of their family at all. At this point everyone is just trying to figure out some way to get down there. There’s no way to get there by driving (the roads are completely torn up), and the airport was completely torn up (the photos of the destruction there actually freaked me out) so the reports are that it’s going to be closed until at least Sunday (and probably beyond that, but hopefully not). Overall the damage appears to be a lot worse than it sounded…

And on top of all that, there appears to be another hurricane just below them as well, so please continue with the thoughts and prayers

Update: My dad just called to tell us he ventured out from his hiding spot in his closet to check out the damage. All the bedrooms and the stairs are flooded, we’ve lost all but two of our windows (including patio doors), our front door and garage doors are in pieces (as well as many cupboard/closet doors), parts of the roof are gone, anything we had on or around the patios is gone, the windows on our car were blown out, trees/plants are all gone, and I’m sure there’s more. Looks to be about the same for the rest of the neighborhood (apparently somebody’s car blew away?). And if that’s what happened to our fairly solid house, I can only imagine what the rest of the city looks like, especially those living in the poorer areas (i.e., where they live under tin and tarp roofs and stacked/un-cemented bricks). A friend there says the entire city is devastated.

It’s bad damage-wise, but everyone is safe physically, thankfully. Continued thoughts and prayers would be much appreciated ❤️

Update on the storm: My dad just informed us that our downstairs (including two of our bedrooms) and stairs are flooded (and that he’s out of towels to soak up water with), and that our friend’s/neighbors’ lost their huge metal front door and their upstairs glass patio door.

Oh yikes, yeah I remember watching all the news about Sandy, it looked awful :(

The problem with Cabo (or maybe Mexico in general idk) is that they don’t really think things through construction-wise before they do it lol… So like they don’t have any sort of drainage system in the city for when it rains (which it doesn’t very often, but when it does it pours) so it kinda just floods everywhere and half of the roads are dirt so they get washed away and it just makes everything messier. It’s kind of hilarious (in a stupid way) to watch the way they do things there when it comes to building things or paving roads, until a storm comes of course..

Could you guys do me a favor and keep my friends and family and everyone else in Cabo/Southern Baja in your thoughts and prayers, please? There’s a major category 4 hurricane that is set to hit them dead on tonight and tomorrow morning, and the town is in no way prepared for that (especially given that they already had two smaller hurricanes hit them within the past few weeks). I’ve seen firsthand what kind of devastation even a small tropical storm can bring to some of the communities there and this is way bigger than that.
